Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Registered Clinical Counsellor

Shayla believes everyone deserves a safe space to better understand themselves, to heal, and to flourish. She believes in each persons innate capacity for growth and will support clients through the counselling process to build upon their natural strengths.
Shayla utilizes an integrative approach to counselling that is grounded in person-centered, strengths-based, and compassion-focused therapy. Shayla applies a wide lens to understanding client’s lived experiences. She believes that examining the world we live in, can be an important piece of the puzzle when understanding individual wellbeing.
In session, Shayla is warm, expressive, genuine, humorous, and caring. Her approach is focused on collaboration, individualizing counselling to client’s unique needs, and promoting autonomy. Shayla encourages self-compassion while supporting clients to uncover deeper meaning, gain new insights, and build on coping strategies.
Shayla is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, nonjudgmental space for clients to start or continue their therapeutic journey. She invites clients to come as they are and however they are most comfortable.
A bit about Shayla
In her free time, Shayla loves spending time with her partner, family, and friends. If she is not in the office, her cat Belina is always by her side and is her companion with various hobbies. These include reading a good book, baking, getting out into nature, gardening, and tending to her overabundance of houseplants. Shayla incorporates mindfulness into these activities and likes to find the small joys in everyday moments.
“A moment of self-compassion can change your entire day. A string of such moments can change the course of your life.”
